Jane the Virgin’s latest episode, “Chapter Twenty-Four,” showed Jane’s indecision between the two men in her life, Rafael and Michael. It was hilarious to see Jane battle herself while trying to choose one man over the other, and it was also hilarious that the form of herself she was battling was a boozed-up Bachelorette version of herself.
In the latest How to Get Away with Murder episode, “Skanks Get Shanked,” stuff happened. Now I’m tired.
The latest Empire episode, “Poor Yorick,” had classic Empire shenanigans, and I do mean “shenanigans.” Hakeem and Jerk Jamal fighting on the set of the awesome Black Panther-in-the-future music video. Lucious and Cookie being lovers at war. Cookie selling out Lucious again after facing the possibility of going to jail again. Andre and Rhonda digging up poor Vernon, only to have Lucious and Thirsty help them out with the process. Vernon’s decrepit body showing up in the Booby Prosecutor’s car. Also: Cookie invoking Sandra Bland as she was being carted away to an interrogation room.
If it’s all standard stuff for Empire, then why have the ratings begun to slip? Since the Season 2 premiere, the ratings have been slipping slowly. Of course, for Empire, a ratings slip is like a billionaire becoming $1000 short. There’s not much to complain about. Or is there? Because even with a billionaire, losing a $1000 a week begins to add up.
This week on How to Get Away with Murder was “How to Have Tons of Sex While Getting Murderers Off (The Hook).” Actually, the title of the episode was “It’s Called the Octopus,” which doesn’t give any indication as to the type of sex that the audience was in store for. Look, I’m not a big, big prude, but I am a prude about seeing tons of sex on TV, especially since I’m currently sharing a house with family members.
It seems like every Empire react I’ll be making this year will be “Jamal’s a big jerk.” And he is still a jerk in the latest episode, “Fires of Heaven.” Like, I get that Lucious is a the king of jerks. But Lucious seemed like he never had a chance to be anything other than a jerk. His jerkiness seems to come from having to live tough in order to survive. But Jamal? As pampered by money and rejected by his father as he is? He’s going to try to act tough and not speak to Cookie, the only parent who gave a damn about him? Jamal’s made me resort to using curse words!
Fresh Off the Boat‘s latest episode, “Shaquille O’Neal Motors,” feels like the show’s first real stab at story continuity, and it’s a welcome addition. It was fun hearing the funny moments from the first season come back around in this episode. More like this, please.
I’m still having fun with Minority Report, but I’m still worried about it, something I’ve written about already.
When the end of the How to Get Away with Murder episode “She’s Dying” aired, I was left with many thoughts. Too many thoughts. Why will the prosecutor get killed? What did Eve do in court? Will Annalise run away from her problems and live an “Olitz making jarred jam” life with Eve? (I already know the answer to that: Of course not.) Let’s get into my reactions, in bulleted form.
FOX’s Minority Report is a show I’ve been on the fence about for a while. Almost as much as Rosewood, but I’ve officially decided that I don’t like that show. What’s got me scared about Minority Report is that I like the show and I want to see where it’s headed, but I don’t know how patient FOX is going to be.
When we were watching the latest black-ish episode, “Rock, Scissors, Paper, Gun,” little did we know that 24-hours later, we’d be witnessing yet another school massacre. It made the conversation that happened on black-ish paltry at best, irrelevant at worse.
