Black women are making history once again!
According to CBS News, Sandra Douglass Morgan has been named the president of The Las Vegas Raiders, becoming the first Black woman to hold the title in the NFL. She’s also the third Black person and third woman to be named an NFL president.
Mark Davis, the owner of the Raiders, said that Morgan was at the top of his list each time he spoke to the candidates, and talked highly of Morgan’s personality.
“Her experience, integrity and passion for this community will be invaluable to our organization,” he said. “From the moment I met Sandra, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with. We are extremely lucky to have her at the helm.”
Morgan said of her new tenure as Raiders president, “I definitely never want to be the last, and I want to get to a point where there is no more firsts.”
“We have so much more to do, and I’m excited to be at the helm of that growth and look forward to ushering in the new chapter for the Raiders,” she continued. “The fact is I have accepted this role because I believe in the promise of the Raiders, I believe in the future of the Raiders, and I believe in this organization’s tenets of community, integrity, and most of all, commitment to excellence.”
Morgan is the former chairwoman and the Nevada Gaming Control Board and also served as Nevada’s first Black city attorney during her 2013-2016 tenure. According to HITC, other accolades to Morgan’s name includes working as an associate attorney from 2002 to 2005 and as a litigation attorney for MGM Resorts International between 2005 to 2008.
She also worked as the Director of External Affairs at AT&T from 2016 to 2019, as well as the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Morgan has won the 40 Under 40 Award from the National Bar Association’s Nation’s Best Advocates.
