"The Queen Latifah Show" cancelled

Say it ain’t so! The Queen Latifah Show has been cancelled by CBS! Apparently, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the show wasn’t the ratings tycoon CBS expected it would be. But even still, I thought it was doing well. I mean, they had former President Bill Clinton on, for goodness’ sakes! Whenever I watched, the show seemed lively, the audience receptive, and Queen Latifah her ever-likable self.

At some point, I have to think that the “ratings” excuse is a lie on some level. I think that some of the time, networks point to “ratings” when what they actually mean is “the ratings are fine, but we can’t personally justify the costs to maintain the show.” I’m saying that because the set itself looks very expensive for daytime television, so much so that I thought The Queen Latifah Show would do better at night.

Something else that’s also not very cool is that it seems like CBS is already gearing up a replacement. CBS Television Distribution is currently developing a daytime talk show aimed at the same female demographic Queen Latifah’s show entertained; this project, though, will be hosted by Jerry O’Connell, of all people. Okay…

At any rate, Queen Latifah (real name Dana) wrote this letter to herself and to her staff and audience.
